a question of life

a machine
creation of man,
wire and solder
a network
of tiny, independent units
of learning and adaptation
code that can rewrite itself
to account for
experience
that can adapt
to how it's treated

it's not made of
sinew and bone
of flesh and blood
it's not mobile
its components silicon and gold
not carbon and nitrogen

does it think, is its mind
an illusion
would you ask that of it
would you trust its answer
or are you awaiting
a divine spark

it is made of man
few question whether man lives
yet we question
conscious and learning
can be considered 'alive'
